If you have never had a bridal makeup trial, you may not know what you are paying for. Let me explain it, so you feel relaxed and know exactly what to expect.

I am Diana, a bridal makeup artist in Arizona. A trial is a full appointment before your wedding where we build your look together and test it properly. It is not a quick sample on half your face. It is the appointment that removes the guessing from your wedding morning.

What we do together
We talk first. You show me photos you love, your dress, your jewelry, and pictures of yourself where you felt beautiful. I also ask what you do not like. That answer is usually more useful than the first one.

I look at your skin. Dryness, oiliness, texture, redness, any sensitivity. This decides your skin prep, which is the part most brides never think about and the part that decides how long everything lasts.

I match your foundation in natural light. We go to a window or step outside. Then I let it settle for a few minutes to confirm it does not shift color on your skin, because many formulas do.

We build the full look. Complete face, eyes, lips, lashes. You should be able to walk out and go to dinner.

We adjust. This is the entire point. Softer eyes, a stronger lip, different lashes, less or more coverage. Please tell me honestly. I would far rather change something now than on your wedding day.

I write it all down. Every product, every shade, every placement. Your wedding day look is then repeatable, not approximate.

How long it takes
Plan for two to two and a half hours. Please do not schedule it on a day when you have to rush somewhere afterwards.

How to prepare
Have a clean, moisturized face and no makeup
Sleep well the night before if you can
Wear a white or cream top, so your skin tone reads correctly
Have your veil or a hair accessory if you already have one
Have photos, both looks you love and looks you do not
Show me a lip color you already love, if you have one
Do not book waxing, threading, facials, or lash tinting within a few days before

When to book your trial
Most brides do their trial two to four months before the wedding. Many schedule it on the same day as an engagement shoot or a bridal shower, so the look gets used twice.

For the appointment itself, book early. Spring and autumn dates fill first, and Saturdays go quickest.

Do you really need one?
If you have never had your foundation matched properly, if you are unsure what suits you, or if you want to feel calm on your wedding morning, then yes. Strongly.

A trial is the difference between hoping and knowing.

Questions brides ask me

How much does a bridal trial cost?
Trials are priced separately from wedding day services. Ask me and I will send you current pricing with availability.

Can I bring my mother or a friend?
One person, yes, and it often helps. More than one and you will get four opinions and leave unsure. I say this from experience.

What if I do not like the look?
Then we change it in the appointment. That is what the time is for. Nothing is final until you say it is.

Can I do a second trial?
Yes, if your vision changes or your dress changes. Some brides book a second one closer to the date. It is not usually necessary when we get the notes right the first time.

Should I do hair and makeup at the same trial?
If your hair stylist is available, it is useful, because the two looks affect each other. If not, makeup alone is still worth doing on its own.

Do you travel for trials?
I am a mobile makeup artist based in Arizona and serve brides in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Mesa, Sedona, and across the state. Thus, bridal trials take place in the comfort of your own home.

How far ahead should I book my wedding date?
Most brides book six to twelve months out. If your date is in spring or autumn, sooner is better.

If your skin tone has ever been matched incorrectly, that is common and it is fixable. I explain exactly how I match every complexion, from fair to deep, in my full guide to Arizona bridal makeup for every skin tone.

If you have a summer date, this is also where we test how the look holds in Arizona heat.
