Recently, I have seen more and more grooms included in the makeup schedule on their wedding day. And this trend is growing as we move into 2026. However, some grooms still feel shy, thinking that makeup is not “normal” for men. If you are a groom-to-be and feeling hesitant, do not stop reading this article.

Let me start by putting your mind at ease right away: groom makeup is not bridal makeup. It is subtle, natural and it is created to help you look your best in person and on camera.

Groom Makeup Is Minimal, Natural and Photo-Ready

Makeup for grooms takes less time than bridal makeup. You will not need layers of products or too much time in the makeup chair. The goal is to even out your skin tone, reduce shine and help you look refreshed for wedding photography and videography.

I have worked with many grooms over the years. Some requested makeup themselves, and others were encouraged by their brides. Either way, every groom I have worked with has been pleasantly surprised by how natural and comfortable the process feels.

My Professional Recommendation as a Wedding Makeup Artist in Arizona

As a beauty professional with over 15 years of experience providing wedding makeup in Arizona, I have some recommendations based on real wedding day experience:

Plan Ahead

If you are considering groom makeup, let your makeup artist know in advance so you can be included in the schedule. I usually do the groom’s makeup toward the end, while the bride is getting into her dress. It takes about 30 minutes and I try to make that moment stress-free.

What Groom Makeup Actually Includes

Lightweight moisturizer, non-sticky and comfortable, because I know most men dislike the heavy feeling of skincare products

Redness and blemish correction, because stress and nerves can cause breakouts

Under-eye concealing, by using a light concealer to help you look rested and fresh

Sheer foundation, a lightweight formula that blends with your skin, without being noticeable

Invisible setting powder to reduce shine and keep skin looking natural, especially under bright lights and cameras

No blush will be used, instead, we may add a touch of bronzer or contour if it makes sense for your face shape and skin tone

Lip balm, just a small amount, so lips don’t look dry or cracked in close photos

I will also lightly evening out eyelid redness and using a clear brow gel to keep brows neat and in place.

What About Beards?

Beards are still very much on trend in 2026. If you have one, I’ll make sure no makeup transfers onto facial hair, keeping everything clean, natural and polished.

And just like that, you are ready to walk down the aisle.

If you are still feeling unsure, don’t be shy. Talk to your bride and ask to be included in the makeup schedule. Most brides are genuinely excited to share that moment so that you’ll look amazing in the photos you’ll cherish forever.
