Planning your wedding also means that many decisions need to be taken and one common question that I hear is: “Who should cover the cost of the makeup for my bridesmaids”.
Weddings can get expensive, not only for you, the bride, but also for your bridesmaids. Your bridal party invests not only in travel, accommodations and dresses but also on other expenses to stand by your side on your special day. Adding professional makeup services to their list can be a significant financial consideration.
There are three options when deciding on this cost, which I will list below.
Option 1: Bridesmaids Cover Their Own Makeup Costs
In many cases, bridesmaids are expected to pay for their own makeup services. This way, each will decide whether to invest in professional makeup or do it themselves. However, this can lead to inconsistencies in the way they look, which might be obvious especially in group photos. Some bridesmaids may be great at applying their own makeup, while others might prefer professional makeup artists. As a result, this “option” could affect the aesthetic of your bridal party.
Option 2: The Bride Covers the Makeup Expenses
As the bride, you could choose to cover the cost of professional makeup for your bridesmaids. This gesture shows appreciation for their support and also creates a cohesive and polished look for your wedding photos. By taking over this expense, you could reduce the stress of your bridal party, allowing your girls to enjoy the “getting ready” process.
Option 3: Sharing the Costs
Another option is to split the makeup costs between you and your bridesmaids. For example, each of you might cover half, or they might cover the application itself and you could cover the gratuity if that is a requirement or the travel fees.
TIP: Consider these when taking this decision: your budget, your bridesmaids financial situation and how important the esthetic is for you. Discuss expectations early in the planning process so that everyone feels comfortable and avoid confusion later.
