Experiencing a baby naming ceremony is really special and I feel so fortunate to have been part of this beautiful Ghanaian tradition twice now. In Ghanaian culture, naming ceremonies are a joyous celebration where the newborn is officially introduced to the community. It’s a day filled with love, tradition and a sea of white attire as guests honor the occasion in unity and style.
For this event, I had the privilege of doing the makeup for the radiant new mom. Her elegant white dress was nothing short of glamorous, so her makeup needed to complement the grandeur of the day. Above, you can see the before and after photo showcasing her transformation.
To create this glamorous look, I prepped her skin thoroughly before diving into the eye makeup.
The eye makeup was the star of her look. To achieve this, I used matte brown and black eyeshadows to add depth to her crease and outer corner. For contrast, the eyelids sparkled with white pigment topped with silver glitter, applied over a white base for maximum shine.
Pro Tip for glitter application – To make the glitter stick and last all day, I used DUO lash glue as an adhesive. For the first time, I experimented with using my finger to apply both the glue and glitter, which gave me better control.
Next, I highlighted the brow bone and inner corners of her eyes for brightness without adding glitter.
We chose dramatic false lashes and a winged eyeliner to accentuate her beautiful eye shape.
Lips – At her request, we went with a classic red lip in a long-wearing formula to last through the day’s festivities.
Face makeup – Matching her skin tone perfectly was important, as usual, so I custom-mixed her foundation. Artists should always carry different shades to achieve a seamless match. Setting powder, blush, brightener and a luminous highlighter brought her complexion to life.
What do you think of this transformation? Would you like a similar look for your special occasion? I’d love to help you feel your best!
