Beautiful makeup starts with great skin. Don’t you agree? Every time I meet with clients, I ask about their skincare routine. If you have a big event coming up, especially your wedding, then this post is for you.
We all know that great results don’t happen overnight. It’s only logical. Rome was not built in a day either. So, start ahead of time and pay attention to some important details.
Here is a breakdown for you to consider.
What to do 12 months before your wedding
First, start a skincare routine to prepare your canvas. I suggest consulting with a dermatologist to address any skin concerns you may have ( for example acne, dryness or hyperpigmentation) that could affect your makeup application. If you don’t already have a consistent skincare routine, now is the time to start one. Get in the habit of using face cleansers both in the morning and at night. Moisturize your face even if you feel that you are oily and don’t need it (we’ll discuss about this in another post). Use sunscreen daily, even if it’s cloudy outside.
Start incorporating products with active ingredients like retinol or vitamin C (for example Strivectin has great ones) to improve skin texture and tone. This will help your skin become smooth and even for the makeup application.
Do not wait until the last minute to book your makeup artist, especially if your wedding is during peak season. I recommend looking for a bridal artist whose style aligns with your vision. Create a Pinterest board or save images of makeup looks that you love. This will help when you communicate your desired look to the artist.
What to do 6 months before the wedding
This is the time to add extra steps to your skincare routine, so that your makeup will look even better. To achieve a refined skin texture and a glowing complexion, consider getting professional treatments like facials, chemical peels or others that your esthetician recommends.
This is also a great time to schedule your makeup trial. Make sure your artist understands your vision and that you feel comfortable with the final look. If you are not completely satisfied, you’ll have enough time to schedule additional sessions.
Pay attention to how the makeup wears throughout the day. Note any issues or allergies and work with your artist to find solutions.
And lastly, let’s not forget about your brows. Start working with a professional to shape them into the ideal arch and maintain their cleanliness regularly. Well-groomed brows frame your face and can add the perfect finish to your makeup look.
If you want to remove hair on small areas, especially on the face, I highly recommend electrolysis. It is a procedure that removes hair piece by piece eliminating the need for touch-ups later. For your reference, I recommend Senza Pelo Medspa if you live in Arizona.
1 Month Before the Wedding – what to do now
Now that you have a set skincare routine, avoid any new products to prevent any last-minute breakouts or reactions that could interfere with your makeup.
Make sure your skin is well-hydrated, so the makeup goes on more smoothly and lasts longer. This applies not only to using face moisturizer, but also to drinking plenty of water.
Work with your artist to prepare a touch-up kit for your wedding day, including lipstick, powder and blotting papers to keep your look fresh. If you work with me, Makeup By Diana, I might have a little surprise for you .
Schedule any facial waxing or brow touch-ups about a week before the wedding to allow time for any redness to fade.
Is getting lash extension on your list? If so, have them done a week or two before the wedding. This gives you time to adjust to the new look.
These are just a few tips to help guide you if you’re feeling lost. I know that planning a wedding is not easy and I hope this information brings you some piece of mind.
